Alex McCleary Funeral Directors was established in 1950, by Alex McCleary a local man born in the area. He was joined in the funeral business by his son Bryan on leaving school in the 1960's, together they built up a highly respected funeral business with a reputation for quality and care.

Sadly in 2002 Alex McCleary passed away having watched his son Bryan carry on the business into the 21st century, still providing the same quality and care to the bereaved families in Newton Stewart and the Machars.

In August 2005, Bryan himself retired in the funeral profession after nearly 40 years in the business, Alex McCleary Funeral Directors was sold to another local independent funeral director – Frazer Hare, who owns and runs Frazer Hare Funeral Directors in Stranraer.

Frazer Hare, Funeral Director

Frazer has been in the funeral profession himself since the early 1990's, when at the age of 19 he became one of the youngest qualified members of the British Institute of Embalmers (M.B.I.E.).

He went on to pass examinations set by the National Association of Funeral Directors and he holds the diploma in funeral directing (Dip.F.D.), thus gaining membership of the British Institute of Funeral Directors (M.B.I.F.D).

Along with his dedicated staff, they have continued to carry on the high standards of quality, care and professionalism which Alex McCleary Funeral Directors has been providing to the people of Newton Stewart and the Machars for over 70 years.
